Peter Taylor: Australian Sculptor
Description
Peter Taylor: Australian Sculptor celebrates the artworks of Peter Taylor, one of Australia’s leading contemporary sculptors.
Taylor rose to prominence in the early 1980s, renowned for his distinctive sculptures carved from Tasmanian timbers. Over three decades he produced a body of work that captivated art critics and art lovers, with his works being praised by Patrick White as ‘the stuff of
dreams’ and Richard Flanagan as ‘extraordinary’.
His most significant commission was the coat of arms for the Senate, Parliament House, Canberra. Yet his career was not without controversy: his sculpture of the crucifixion was labelled by the media as ‘Tasmania’s most controversial work of art’.
