Social Media Competition Terms and Conditions


To ensure compliance with relevant Australian legislation and the terms of use of social media platforms, the following Terms and Conditions apply to the Parliament Shop’s promotional competition. This competition is a Game of Chance, and winners will be selected at random from valid entries submitted via Instagram and Facebook. 

 

1. Organiser 

The competition is conducted by the Parliament Shop, Australian Parliament House, Canberra ACT 2600. 

 

2. Eligibility 

  • Entry is open to residents of Australia aged 18 years or older.
  • Entrants must hold a public account on Facebook or Instagram to participate.
  • Employees of the Department of Parliamentary Services and their immediate families are ineligible to enter.
  • No purchase is necessary to enter or win. 

 

3. Competition Period 

The competition commencement and closing dates and times will be clearly specified in the official competition posts on the Parliament Shop’s Facebook and Instagram pages. 

 

4. Entry Requirements 

Instagram: 

  • Follow the Parliament Shop Instagram account (@ParliamentShop);
  • Like the official competition post; and
  • Comment by tagging at least one friend. 

Facebook: 

  • Like the Parliament Shop Facebook page;
  • Like the official competition post; and
  • Comment by tagging at least one friend. 

Participants may enter on both platforms; however, each participant is eligible to win only once per competition cycle. 

 

5. Prize Details 

Four winners will each receive one (1) Sustainable Sip Pack, valued at $89.90 AUD. Each prize pack contains: 

  • One (1) Parliament Drink Bottle – Denim (660ml);  
  • One (1) Parliament Reusable Coffee Cup – Denim (227ml). 

The total prize pool is valued at $359.60 AUD. Prize details will also be included in the competition posts. 

 

6. Winner Selection 

Winners will be drawn at random from valid entries using a third-party tool - Comment Picker. All selected entries will be manually reviewed to ensure they meet the eligibility and entry requirements. 

 

Please note that some third-party tools may not automatically verify account follows or likes. These will be manually checked before confirming winners. 

 

7. Notification of Winners 

Winners will be contacted via direct message on Instagram or Facebook Messenger, depending on the platform used to enter. Winners will also be announced publicly via a post or story on the Parliament Shop’s official accounts. 

 

Winners must respond within 72 hours of being contacted to confirm their eligibility and arrange prize collection or delivery. If a winner does not respond within this timeframe, the prize will be forfeited, and a new winner will be drawn using the same selection process.

 

8. Disqualification 

The organiser reserves the right to disqualify any entry that: 

  • Does not meet the stated eligibility or entry requirements
  • Is incomplete or not publicly visible;
  • Appears to be from a fake or duplicate account; or
  • Is deemed fraudulent or otherwise in breach of these Terms and Conditions. 


9. Platform Disclaimer 

This competition is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Facebook or Instagram. By entering, participants release Facebook and Instagram from all liability arising from or related to this promotion. 

 

10. Privacy 

Personal information collected in connection with this competition will be managed in accordance with the Parliament Shop’s Privacy Policy, available at Privacy Policy – Parliament Shop. Personal data will only be used for the purposes of administering the competition and notifying winners. 

 

11. Permits 

The total prize pool value is under the threshold that requires trade promotion permits in all Australian states and territories. Should permits be required, they will be obtained prior to the competition launch. 

 

12. Compliance 

The competition will be conducted in accordance with: 

  • The Australian Consumer Law (ACL);
  • Applicable state and territory laws relating to trade promotions; and
  • Facebook and Instagram’s current promotion policies and guidelines.
