My Country Scarf by Rosie Tarku King
Description
Scarf featuring an untitled artwork by Rosie Tarku King.
This product includes a card detailing the artist’s work and practice.
About the artwork:
This painting re-interprets traditional depictions of Tarku King’s Country in a cacophony of vibrant colours and bold brush strokes, depicting jilas (living waterholes) and jumus (soakages) way out in the Great Sandy Desert.
The heat of the desert drives the scene in plumes of hot pink and coral. While the movement of the linework is reminiscent of microscopic fragments of floral debris circulating the air on a desert breeze.
The acid yellow of baking salt pans is tempered by the cool green of trees and dry grass balancing the desert extremes – a reminder that life persists here, even amongst the arid sands.
About the artist:
Rosie Tarku King was born at Payinjarra, a jumu (soakage) in the Great Sandy Desert, c. 1934. Rosie spent her childhood in the bush, walking across her Country, and hunting wirlka (sand goanna) and pussycat for food.
