Woven basket - Julie Anderson

$264.00 AUD
Description

Handcrafted by Tjanpi Desert Weavers artist Julie Anderson, this coiled basket is a beautiful expression of desert fibre art and cultural storytelling.

Made with raffia using traditional weaving techniques, the basket features vibrant colour and bold form — a striking example of contemporary fibre art grounded in Country and community.

About the artist:

Julie was born in the 1950s at Victory Downs Station and now lives in the remote community of Apatula (Finke), Northern Territory. She began weaving with Tjanpi Desert Weavers in 2018 and quickly developed a distinctive style. Julie says weaving helps her focus and brings her a deep sense of pride: ‘When I do baskets I just forget about everything you know... I enjoy it... When I see it on somebody else’s shelf it makes me feel proud.’

Julie is one of over 400 women artists supported by Tjanpi Desert Weavers, an Aboriginal-governed social enterprise working across remote communities in the NT, SA and WA.

About the supplier:
